Welcome to Ordnance Survey Ireland’s (OSi) Educational section of our website.
Mapping plays a big part in our lives today, sometimes even though we don’t know it at the time. Knowing how to read and understand maps can help us in many ways not only in showing you where you buried your treasure but how to get home afterwards for dinner!
Ireland was first mapped in 1824 and it took over 2000 people to do it at the time. Today, computers now allow maps to be produced quickly and in digital form.
In this part of our website we try to help children and adults learn and understand mapping through an easily explained and fun process.
For our older visitors to our website we also provide information on how using spatial information can help us to better understand our world.
Whether you starting off in junior infants or want to know more about Geographical Information Systems (GIS) we hope you find something useful
