Adventure Racing is a combination of two or more disciplines, normally including navigation, cross-country running, mountain biking, canoeing and some form of rope skills, e.g. abseiling or climbing. An event can last a few hours to a few days.
All events are in their infancy and rely heavily on OSi and OSi products for support. The event organizers use OSi Trail Master to plan the routes, and the competitors use OSi Trail Master and our Discovery maps to help them in their preparation for the race itself. For example, in 2007 over 400 people raced in the Westport Gaelforce race (not to mention the large number of support personnel), the logistics involved in planning & hosting this event are made easier by the use of our products.
Adventure Racing is a growing sport in Ireland, the popularity of the sport is reflected in the TV coverage it receives with Setanta Sport Ireland, RTE and Channel 4 all running programs on the events above.
