Digital Historic Mapping
Between 1829 and 1842 Ordnance Survey Ireland completed the first ever large-scale survey of an entire country at a of scale 6 inch to a mile. Acclaimed for their accuracy, these maps are regarded by cartographers as amongst the finest ever produced. Following this, a second survey was completed between 1887 and 1913 at a scale of 25 inch to a mile.
As the national mapping archive service for Ireland, OSi has captured this data in a digitised format, and both the 6 inch colour and black & white, and 25 inch Historic mapping are now available in raster TIFF format.
